In this moment our kids can learn pretty much whatever they want whenever they want! This is a shift we as educators have to begin to understand. Watch Will Richardson talk about this amazing shift in how kids learn at his TED talk in March. Some of the points we recognize from when he was here in Norway in November. Kids are no longer waiting for curriculum to deliver to them the things that they want to learn. They are simply going out and learning those things when they want to. Information and knowledge are everywhere! Kids should be solving real world problems! Classrooms and teachers should be learning how to collaborate with global peers where they could create beautiful and important work that they can share with the world. None of that is the stuff of test prep and all of that is the stuff of life prep says Will Richardson, see the full 14 minute presentation here.
The web should be used more in “official” education programs….
