The World’s Largest Edtech Event Is Back – Here’s Your Essential Guide, Forbes.
Are you not attending, like me, I would suggest you listen to this conversation. And if you should do both I would love to hear your comments! I did take a stand in 2019, “overwhelmed by size, underwhelmed by quality“, and therefore will no longer be attending Bett, but that does not equal me not wanting to listen to the key speakers. Bett was a great boost for me when I started attending the show and I am very thankful for all the opportunities I have been given. Like in January 2014 when Carolyn Rice BBC wrote an article about me and my students. But for now, I will settle on staying home and enjoying this:
Brian Eno and Stephen Fry take on AI – Intercom Off Script Special Edition
Welcome to a very special, limited-time only episode of Off Script, where two of the world’s most compelling cultural voices – musical pioneer, visual artist, and activist Brian Eno and award-winning actor, author, and comedian Stephen Fry – come together to unpack the profound transformation AI is bringing to our world. Fry and Eno joined us at Pioneer, Intercom’s first-ever AI customer service summit, where they explored AI’s vast potential while interrogating its implications. These two legends have seen multiple technological upheavals up close, as participants and first-hand observers, and they share a unique perspective on how this latest wave of tech disruption might reshape our creative and social landscapes. What emerges, through a blend of hilarious anecdotes and profound insights, is a nuanced examination of AI that’s both optimistic and cautiously critical. While celebrating AI’s ability to transform everything from customer service to creative expression, they remind us of important lessons learned from the era of the internet, smartphones, and social media. Key takeaways:
1. Our current AI systems are just a glimpse of what’s to come. The technology’s potential is so vast that today’s capabilities will seem primitive very soon.
2. The real challenge isn’t sparking AI’s creativity but rather getting it to transcend mediocrity. Since AI naturally gravitates toward the most probable outputs, creating something truly interesting requires carefully crafted prompts that force it away from the obvious.
3. We need to slow down the adoption of technology to better understand its societal impact. Just as early social media promised connection but enabled division, AI needs proper frameworks and transparency to avoid similar pitfalls.
