What’s the other story?
3 energetic, interesting, fun and in many ways exhausting days are over. 3 days of learning and connecting. This is for sure the only conference I have been to with 100 % student and teacher participation. My hope is that everyone who participated travels back with new insight and some plans on what they want to do at their own school to make a change. Many might already be doing great work in their schools/ classrooms with both students and staff. Looking at all the end products that were showcased today I’m pretty sure we can agree on one thing. Everyone wants something different from what is going on in our schools today. And the old cliche one size does not fit all is still valid. Students want passion driven curriculum. They want to choose what to learn and how to work with the material. Watching the video below you have to admit that the students have skills in creating innovating ideas with great videos!
My takeaways!
They keynote on day 2 with Michael Furdyk was great! His TakingITGlobal, which is also known as TIG, is a charitable non-governmental organization focusing on global issues by promoting awareness and engagement among global youth. I’m hoping he will be able to visit us in Norway. It would be great to get more schools and students in Europe involved. TIG’s stated mission is to “provide opportunities for learning, capacity-building, cross-cultural awareness, and self-development through the use of Information and Communication Technologies. The flat talks by Anne Mirtschin, Kristina Stoney, Chris Betcher were all inspiring. They had great stories to contribute to the conference theme; what’s the other story. Suggest you look at their websites!

But by far I’m mostly impressed with what all the students and teachers came up with during those 2 1/2 days! Wow, very creative. Let’s hope they continue working like this when they get back to school and that their ideas will live on and spread! Take a look at the two videos I have chosen from this confernece. Got to love those kids in the passion project! Their mission statement is: Let’s free education and stop exams limiting our future. I’m all for that!

It’s great to see this many students so passionate about how they learn and how important education is for themselves and future generations. It’s wonderful and inspiring to see how innovative they are and how keen they are to change the education system for the better.
