Getting to know each other better

Last year my students gave a class evaluation at the end of the term. A returning issue was getting to know the other classmates better. I think many were shy and uncomfortable when presenting in class. This year I want to spend more time getting to know the students better and give them time to know each other better too.  We will start by doing these simple tasks in different groups of 4.

Objectives: To get to know 6 students you did not know before class!

  1. In pairs look up places to study abroad here:
  2. Find one volunteer program and one school program in two continents
  3. Write down and explain your choices
  4. Inside outside circle, share your findings with each other.

ISSUU

In groups of 4 chose a topic from this year’s curriculum and write a page with pictures. Each group should make a topic headline and paragraph headlines.
Save the page and we will together in class publish a magazine for everyone to read using Issuu.

Time: 90 minutes from start to finish. Includes brainstorming, getting to know the group, strengths and interests.

Speaker Online Radio

In groups of 4 chose one or two of the pictures found here: The week in pictures. Make a radio program where you cover the news. Divide roles, radio host, one or two guests one for commercials and a producer. Find appropriate music for the show. Use SpeakerOnline Radio to publish. Time: 90 minutes from start to finish. Includes brainstorming, deciding on pictures getting to know the group, talking about strengths and interests.
